K9 Musical Gala Evening 11th May 2010

K9 Musical Gala Evening 11th May 2010

There was a sense of anticipation both inside and outside the Starlights Cabaret Bar at Coral Mar Square in Costa Del Silencio, as the previous gala evening in November 2009 had been brilliant.
The purpose of the evening was to raise awareness and money to support the abandoned dogs and cats at the K9 kennels in San Miguel. Supporters were out in force selling raffle & tombola tickets, getting punters to name a cat and a dog, selling K9 t shirts, key rings, books, DVD’s and videos.
Seven acts were kind enough to donate their time and talents to this worthy cause.

First up was John Ashford with his brilliant Buddy Holly Appreciation Show. This had the audience either foot tapping or rocking on the dance floor.
Charlie Hodge is a relative newcomer to K9 audiences but his Neil Diamond tribute went down very well and we hope to see him again in the future.
Aidy Evans received a standing ovation for his very polished 60’s and 70’s tribute where he sang some numbers publicly for the first time.
An Auction was conducted by the larger than life Geraldine who brought a sense of fun into the occasion and persuaded some generous punters to (successfully) part with their euros.
The interval provided respite and the excellent Buffet provided by Chrissy was well worth waiting for.

The K9 President Elsie Clinton-Leslie kicked off the second half by presenting a Certificate of Thanks to Christine & Raymond Berry for their fundraising activities in the UK. They visit Tenerife each year and spend their holiday by visiting the kennels each day to walk the dogs. Once they return to Bedford, Chris & Ray begin the fundraising process once again, and along with their friends, have raised several hundred pounds for K9 over the years. Ray has now retired and Chris volunteers at a Cattery. Well done.
Elsie also publicly thanked the K9 committee and volunteers who were present and insisted they join her on stage to accept a round of applause from the audience.
Rosemary Eden had a touch of the Bette Midler style about her and her trademark rapport with male members of the audience in particular, was appreciated by those on the receiving end!
Christine Kay belted out songs that suited her style to perfection. Over the years she has become a favourite to K9 audiences with her extraordinary talent. Small body with a huge voice!
Jesse Goran provided a wide variety of old favourites ranging from Country & Western to Rock & Roll and brought the enjoyable evening to a close.
Mike Edwards held the whole show together with his usual witty and workmanlike performance, ably assisted by Mandy on the Sound System.

Raffles were drawn and prizes distributed to the lucky winners.

Thanks go to lots of people, principally the artists, the bar staff, Gloria & Dave who arranged the show, K9 helpers and supporters, and the patrons who turned up and were generous with their cash towards raffles, tombola, book sales, name the cat, name the dog as well as the auction.
An excellent 4 hour show of non-stop entertainment, widely appreciated.
€700 was raised which goes towards the care of the dogs and cats at the kennels. Thanks very much.

LOVING HOME URGENTLY WANTED FOR REX

The Guardia Civil found this lovely boy Husky wandering on the main road with a heavy chain round his neck. He had a microchip so they were able to trace his owner in Adeje, who was distraught to hear about his dog and told the following story.
Rex’s owner is leaving Tenerife in June and cannot take his dog with him. A ‘friend’ offered Rex a home on his finca where he can run free. Instead, he was confined on a heavy chain which he managed to snap and go in search of his master.
The two men from the Guardia were real dog lovers and fell in love with Rex. It was evening and Guia de Isora does not have a dog pound. They were unable to contact the owner at that time so they took the dog to Barbara & David Smith (of Friends of the Animals) for help, who arranged for Rex to stay overnight at a boarding kennel. The dog’s owner agreed to pay the boarding fee and his dog is still being cared for at the kennel.
This Husky is used to a loving home so we are making this plea…
IS THERE ANOTHER LOVING HOME WAITING FOR REX?
IF YOU ARE THAT PERSON, PEASE RING KARIN ON 677 885 634 OR
