My second class at Star Agility

I went to Star-South Tenerife Agility Ring yesterday had another fab afternoon with my furry amigos and the nice agility teacher Clare, with the help of her assistant Glenn showed us how to use some more of the equipment - It was great fun for the doggies and the humans. There was this rather horizontally challenged chap though waiting ouside the ring - don't think he has much hope of being able to join in though..!

My First Agility Class

I went to my first agility class yesterday with my mate Sammy and Nikki's pal Dominique Doring (Dog Trainer). The Agility class is held next to a banana plantation in the San Eugenio area, see here for directions click.  In the first class, Clare our agility teacher demonstrated to us about how to use some of the equipment and we all had turns using it. There were 6 of us attending the class , that's the maximum of doggies they can teach in one go, as it  then gives everybody a chance to have individual attention.

I thought I did very well and Clare the agility teacher was impressed. All of the doggies though did very well . It helps that Clare is such a kind and patience teacher . Shelly and her partner also agility trainers were there to give a helping hand and they are also very nice humans :)

Mi furry amiga the lovely Mercedes, started first with jumping over a pole followed by me and the other doggies . Our owners brought plenty of treats with them so we had incentive to jump over the poles. We were all quite exhausted including our owners when we finished, but it was great fun and a fantastic way to bond with your pooch. I can highly recommend agility training and Star Agility who are very professional and kind people. You can find out more by clicking here

New Agility Courses in the South - Open Day 8th of January

After the mammoth Christmas eating session, why not do some fun excercise with your doggie and here is just the thing..........

New agility courses have started up in La Caldera Del Rey, San Eugenio. To check it out go to their first public open day on  January 8th from 3'0'clock , or ring this number 649556620 to reserve your place on the next training course.

The courses are run by Shelly Stevens, Claire McIntrye Cook and Glenn Story . Who between them have many years of experience, to find out more go to their website www.southtenerifeagilityring.com

The directions to the agility course - Come off the TF1 at exit 29 then take 3rd exit at the roundabout (straight ahead for Aqualand). After about 60 metres turn right on to Avenida Europa. This road has a few curves but always uphill. Soon you will see a wall on the right, the top half white with large yellow rectangles. Take next right after this wall. This will bring you to the top road where on the other side you can see all the banana plantations. Continue in the same direction, at the end of this road are concrete barriers but there you will see a small road on the left leading down to the farm.

I think I will check it out, sounds fun..!

Acccion-del-Sol

Press release supplied by Karen Clack........

November the 5th bonfire night is just around the corner, please remember to protect your pets from the festivities .
This time of year can be a worrying and confusing one for your dog, occurrences like bonfire night don’t happen very often and that’s what makes it a lot scarier for your dog or puppy.

Dogs do not like unfamiliarity’s and all the flashes ,sudden bangs, smoke and flames can make your dog extremely scared and afraid of what is happening. Unfortunately there have been many cases of dog deaths on bonfire night over the last ten years so it’s a must to keep an eye on your dog at this time of the year and any other similar time such as New Years Eve.

Accidents and injuries happen on bonfire night because of dogs or puppies being loose outside and the unfamiliar sounds and flashes causing them to go into a panic and running away from home, running into roads, or getting stuck in tight spaces trying to hide from the noises.

Fortunately, there are rules and advice that can be followed to prevent times like these and keep your dog in safe hands. To begin you will need to stop your dog being out at night and keep them reassured indoors and away from their outdoor home if they have one.

Make sure all the doors are locked and shut, if your dog sees an opening they will go for it if they become scared. Try to make a small sheltered area for your dog where they feel protected and in control, and cuddles and calmly playing with your dog may help your dog be less nervous and take their mind off the situation.

If your dog does escape, be calm and positive with them wile trying to get them back inside as quickly as possible, if all these rules are followed then everything should go to plan and you will be able to relax on bonfire night and not have to worry about your pet.
Information supplied by Accion Del Sol dog refuge , Poligono Industrial Estate, Exit 51 TF1, situated directly under the windmills at ITER , Parque Eolica, Granadilla. The refuge is open monday to friday 3-6 pm or contact 922778630.

We meet every thursday at various locations for walks or fun exercise and agility with our dogs. Everyone is welcome to join us, there are lots of dogs at the refuge that would love to join in the fun if you dont have your own dog.

Accion Del Sol first agility training class

Accion Del Sol's  first agility dog practice was a wooftastic success, all the dogs and the humans really enjoyed it. I couldn't join in, a bit old for that kind of thing.

Steph Tufft showed the doggies around the course first, and then ever body had a go.

Well done Karen Clack for organising the agility event and thanks to Steph for giving her time and the Atlantic Whale Foundation did a fabulous job at constructing the agility equipment, Tenerife dogs definitely gives the paws up to these guys.

So don't forget Accion Del Sol's summer party 20th June and you still have time to get some practice in next week 3pm-6pm at  Accion Del Sol, for the agility competition. For more information - Tel Steph at Waggy Tails - 628859973.

"Definitely deserve a biscuit for that"

Marion Director of Accion Del Sol

Karen the organiser of the agility course with her pooch

"Now what am I suppose to do, new at this you know"

Steph introducing the class

"I am getting the hang of this"

"Its going to take more than a biscuit to get me to walk on that !"

"Need a bit of a rest its exhausting you know"
