This pretty pooch needs a home. This little Yorkshire Terrier was brought in to Accion Del Sol with bad heartworm, she has now been treated by a vet. Her last owner didn't treat her very well, and that is the reason why the police brought her into to Aktiontier.
If you would like to give this sweet dog a home ring Accion Del Sol 922 77 86 30
Here's a photo of myself after having to have a bath , because apparently I smelt after having rolled on a fish, charming. I thought that fish was quite fragrant. I really don't understand humans sometimes.
Last saturday / sunday night 18 people very bravely did the Teide Challenge to raise money for Accion Del Sol dog refuge . It was a huge success and I am sure our final total raised will exceed 1000 euros which was my target. The money raised will be spent on making a new fenced area and kennels for the older dogs that are harder to re-home due mainly to their age and size. This will give more space in the main kennels for Marion to take more dogs into the refuge.
The walk started at the base of Teide at midnight and they reached the refuge at 4.30am and after a rest and hot drinks they climbed for another hour to reach the summit and to see the sunrise. The comments and feedback i received was fantastic and amazing. Well done too you all and a really big thank you from myself and all at Accion Del Sol .

Nikki and Richard found an abandoned pooch near where we live. It looked like as if a human might of just dumped him in the car park, but of course if the dog has a micro-chip the Vet might be able to locate the owners and it could be that the carers of the Pooch have genuinely lost him.
He is a very trusting and affectionate dog and it was easy for Richard to put him in the car, mind you he did scoff all my dog biscuits, but I did'n't mind the pooch was hungry.
The doggy is now staying with Pete and Kate and being taken care of until he finds a home. Here is a photo Pete took this morning, he will be having a fur-cut soon to make him more presentable - but even without a fur-cut he is a very cute dog. Nikki and Richard reckon he was once looked after well as he is very affectionate.
Muchas gracias Pete and Kate for coming to the rescue of this pooch. You are stars...!
If anybody reading this would like to give this dog a home ring Pete or Kate on

Not a particularly happy subject I know, but something that all humans will have to experience with their furry friend, the death of your beloved pooch.
Watch out for those hot pavements in Tenerife, its not really a good idea anyhow to take your pooch out in the middle of the day as your dog will find it too uncomfortable as they can't sweat as much as we can and therefore find it more difficult to keep their body temperature down. Also those hot pavements can burn paw pads, creating blisters and/or infection
Take your dog out in the early morning or evening when the pavements are cooler
Watch for constant licking of paws. It can be an indication of pain and should have the attention of your vet.

There are lots of good reasons for volunteering but perhaps the most persuasive is, quite simply, that voluntary work is rewarding.
If you´re looking for something ‘extra’ in your life, volunteering could be right for you.
We´re inviting anyone who is interested to come along to our volunteer event, when you´ll be able to chat to some of our existing volunteers and committee about all there is to do with K9 in the south of Tenerife. We hope some of our existing volunteers are able to join us. Light refreshments will be provided.
There will be a short presentation on the main areas of volunteering (campaigning, fundraising, awareness raising, befriending, helping at events, assisting at the kennels etc.).
If you can spare anytime from one hour a fortnight to several hours a week, every little helps.
There is no obligation to ‘sign up’ – just come along if you are interested.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer but unable to attend either Event, please contact Mikey on 922 752415 or email him at HYPERLINK "mailto:mikebtenerife@yahoo.co.uk" mikebtenerife@yahoo.co.uk who will be pleased to answer some of your queries.

K9 are well on their way to getting all the sponsors for their Calendar. They have 9 sponsors for 9 pages. The Calendar also has a 'Well Wishers Page' which is only 30 euros to have your name or logo. please email nikki@tenerifedogs.com if you are interested in becoming a sponsor.
This little Jack Russell was brought to Accion-Del- Sol “proteccion civil” with her puppy.
She still looks very unhappy. Who knows what people have done to her. She is a very quiet Lady who doesn’t want to make any noise. So she whould fit perfect with somebody in a flat. Raquel is small and her tail was cut.
Please is there one who wants this 2 years old dog? Please call Marion at the Refuge “Acción del Sol”. Or come to our opening times between 3 and 6 p.m.
from Monday to Friday. Where the windmills are. Poligono Industrial de Granadilla, Parque EOLICO del ITER.
Have you ever seen a skateboarding dog ? or a pooch making music on a laptop ? or a pup driving a truck ?
No ... ? Well you might be about to make their acquaintance when K9 launch their wooftastic 2011 calendar, featuring puppies from the rescue shelter in a variety of cute, fun and unusual settings.
These images will brighten up anybody´s wall throughout 2011, and the calendar is certain to appeal to a wide market. Everyone loves puppies – especially when they're as cute as these cheeky chappies !
But K9 need your help to bring these wonderful woofers to a wall near you. K9 receives no funding from any official body, and relies solely on the generosity of the general public, so they really need sponsors to help finance the project.
For a small donation, your business (or even a private individual) can sponsor a month in the calendar with their logo, advertising copy, and a message of support. For an even smaller donation you can share a page.
All profits from the calendar will go towards the ongoing costs of feeding and caring for the 80+ dogs and cats in the K9 kennels at San Miguel.
The photographer is Nikki Attree, who was one of the photographers for the highly acclaimed 2009 K9 calendar of Tenerife entertainers with their pets. Nikki is also the web editor for TenerifeDogs.com which is regularly featured in ´Island Connections`, ´Canarian Weekly`, and ´Tenerife News` and the calendar will be sure to get plenty of media attention and on-line publicity.
It's planned to have 500 calendars printed and to have a Launch Party in the Los Cristianos area in October.
If you'd like to support this wooftastic calendar then please contact Nikki by e-mail: nikki@tenerifedogs.com or telephone Neal Paterson or Mikey Braithwaite on 619 678 384 or email: mikebtenerife@yahoo.co.uk
But don't delay - the sponsorship spaces are already being filled up and the K9 pups are going to be Big in 2011 !
