Poochie Pet Hotel and Rescue need your pet carriers....

Would you like to help a rescue dog..?  do you have any airline approved pet carriers in your loft that you don't use ?

Pete and Kate who run Poochie Pet Hotel and Rescue need more carriers to transport their stray dogs to homes in Germany etc.

Accion-del-sol update

The town halls, schools and Kindergarten in collaboration with Aktiontier are starting with more educational programmes for children this year in Animal welfare.
In Tenerife they have the opportunity to learn not only in a classroom but also at the refuge, this keeps it even longer in children's minds .Accion Del Sols vet will educate the children on basic care and feeding, how to treat a dog, How to educate a dog, explain the importance of yearly vaccinations, heart worm and flea prevention . The children will learn how to correctly handle a dog and they will learn the importance of respecting the dogs. The children will have hands on experience with the dogs and supervised play time with the puppies and small dogs. This is a mayor step forward to improve animal welfare here in Tenerife. Our next fundraising event is on the 12th of march which is a long distance (20km ) horse ride from El Salto to El Medano via the Accion Del Sol dog refuge for refreshments then a scenic ride back via El Dessierto then back to Karens finca for a well deserved BBQ and cool beer or two. One of the riders Nicola Rowe will be celebrating her 40th birthday that day so once the horses are fed and settled im sure the celebrations will begin. This last week has been again a busy week for Accion Del Sol , the cocker spaniel in the picture was collected in Arona, he has a microchip but his owner cannot be traced so after the obligatory 21 days he will be looking for a new home. If you do own a dog please insure the microchip is in your name and registered at (en los bases de datos del colegio) or better known as Zoocan (www.zoocan.net), the vet will give you a blue copy of the chip registration form , you can then rest assured if you do loose your dog then you can be easily traced and contacted and reunited with your pet.

Thank you to the kind people who have donated various items for us to sell to raise money for the refuge. We are collecting bric a brac, items large and small, clothes, books and household items. Please contact the refuge on 922778630 or Karen on 687905511 if you can help out in any way.
Accion Del Sol is situated at Exit 51 on the TF1, Poligono Industrial Estate, Granadilla, next to Iter the Parque Eolica del ITER (windmill farm ) and the refuge is open monday - friday 3-6pm. Visitors and dog walkers are always welcome.

Beach Bum Baz catching a few sun rays on his fur

Here is photo of me getting some heat on my fur . Nikki has applied some suncream on my parting as you can't be too careful I don't want to get sun burnt. 

A lot of people don't realise but us doggies can get sun burnt especially if they don't have thick fur, so make sure your pooch has shade if he is sitting outside and of course plenty of water.

Got to go now Nikki has just put some ice cubes in my water bowl.

I do like my water chilled..:)

Well its been a very busy week at the refuge , this weekend 6 lucky dogs had an early morning wake up call to go to the airport so they could start there new lives in Germany. In the picture is Rosy after being sterilised who was one of the lucky dogs to have a new home.

This week 19 new dogs came to the refuge, 12 from Granadilla, 4 dogs from San Miguel and the first 3 dogs from the new collaboration with Arona.
We are urgently stepping up our rehomming programme to try to give as many dogs as possible a new and loving home either here in Tenerife or in Germany. This is vital as it enables us to carry on helping more dogs here in Tenerife . Every dog is vaccinated, defleed, wormed, micro chipped, sterilised or castrated, tested for heart worm, pass ported, and obviously any medical requirements the dog may have when it first arrives at the refuge. This is an initial cost of 200e per dog before feeding and maintenance of the dog. Without the collaboration of government funding ,and our own fund raising via events and membership in Germany and in Tenerife then Aktion Tier would not be able to offer the 1st class care that these dogs so desperately need and do recieve at Accion Del Sol.

Arona are enforcing there laws over abandoned and dangerous dogs so please if you do have a dangerous dog then please get the appropriate licence, the fines are extremely high up to 15,000e for abandoning a dog and up to 2000e for not having a dangerous dog licence. Times are changing for the good of the dogs here in Tenerife, together we can help stop the needless suffering. If you do find a stray or abandoned dog then please call the local police who will then arrange for Protection Civil to collect the dog which if its from Granadilla, Guia De Isora, San Miguel or Arona then the dog will be brought to the 1st class refuge Accion Del Sol. The refuge is situated at Exit 52 on the TF1, Poligono Industrial Estate, Parque Eolica De Iter, San Isidro, Tel. 922778630. The refuge is open monday - friday 3- 6pm and all visitors and volunteer dog walkers would be very welcome.
We are collecting items big and small to raise a euro or two for the dogs so please contact the refuge or Karen on 687905511 if you have any items that you would like to donate.

K9 Event

An Audience with Billy Porter

On Sunday 27th February from 2pm till 5pm, there will be a fundraiser in aid of K9 at THE RUMPOT, SAN EUGENIO.

It is unique in that it will be a One Man Show held together by the multi talented Billy Porter, who won Best Comedian at the 2010 Tenerife's Got Talent Awards.

There will be a BBQ provided by The Rumpot, Raffles and the sale of K9 merchandise such as T Shirts, Key Rings and Poo Bag Holders. There might also be a Treasure Map and Book Stall but this is yert to be confirmed.

Come along, join in the fun whilst supporting a good cause at the same time.
