Food for thought for future pet owners.

Press release by Karen Clack (Volunteer Accion-del Sol)

Please remember that an animal from a shelter or refuge has usually already had a hard fate behind them, and requires time to settle into his new environment and to learn to trust his new owners.   An abundance of patience, love and care is definitely required.
If the dog is  allowed in the house do all the family members want a pet?Who takes care of the animal?
Who will Prepare the food and provide water ,walk the dog a minimum of 2 times a day in all weathers, regular maintenance, and grooming etc.
Are dog hairs and the occasional "accident"  on the carpet or furniture acceptable as the normal !!

Do you know what costs are involved:
a) Food
b) Veterinary fees
c) Monthly Flea and heart worm control
d) Liability insurance
e) possible accommodation in kennels  while on holiday

Remember that a dog can live for many years  and as long as he  lives will  need  daily care and attention?
The dog is a living animal with feelings and not something that you can quickly get rid of or discard when your fed up with it ! Having a dog or other pet is a very big responsibility both personally and financially.
However, the dog in return will thank you unconditionally and love you for ever and bring alot of joy and support into your life.

Please do think long and hard before taking on a dog. If you feel that you would like to adopt one of Accion Del Sols many abandoned dogs then please do come and visit the refuge Monday - Friday 3-6pm or call 922778630 for more information.  The refuge is situated at Poligono De Industrial Estate, Granadilla, Exit 51 on the TF1, directly next to ITER the  Parque Eolica where the windmills are.
Maybe if this is to big a committment but you would like to help Accion Del Sol then they are always looking for people to walk the dogs to the nearby beach and surrounding countryside . The dogs always welcome a bit of TLC and a nice walk.
